Chris is incredibly easy to work with, quickly adapted to my preferences, after a while able to express them better than I could myself. He helped me establish and stay within my budget, only expanding the scope when I asked. He is what you hope for in a designer – someone who listens to your needs but brings his unique ideas to create something you always wanted but couldn’t get to on your own.
I highly recommend him.
In both rooms, he helped us pick paint colors given some constraints that we could not change (a particular art piece we wanted to add, existing TV/fireplace feature, existing area rug, existing automated window shade).
In the living room, he helped us replace a dark and visually heavy sofa with a lighter, sleeker Lazytime Small sectional from Camerich that was just as comfortable. He was able to source it from a local dealer At-Hom and get us a great discount off the retail price. We insisted on being able to try before we buy, and luckily Chris was able to make that happen. In addition to choosing the sofa, he helped us add style to our window by adding a live edge wood valance and new textured curtains.
In the bar, we gave him a few tasks (1) find a dog-friendly area rug to fit the odd shape/size of the area (2) replace both existing pottery barn shelves and a cheap console table with a more upscale, cleaner overall bar design. We’ve had trouble designing a built-in bar for the last year for fear of a domino effect that would compel us to redesign the neighboring kitchen. Lucky for us, Chris was able to accomplish both tasks as well as giving the bar design a unique industrial design that didn’t cause friction with our mostly average flipper’s kitchen (standard granite and builder-grade cabinets).
Chris gave us a custom-built steel bar buffet from Combine 9 to house our liquor bottles, glasses and bar accessories and a few live edge wood shelves to display decor. We had initially agreed on a more grand wine bottle storage solution involving a reclaimed tree trunk cross section paired with custom installed wine pegs. However, once cost and other issues were factored in, we happily chose a non-custom modern, modular wine rack system from STACT.
The custom area rug was built using carpet tiles from FLOR and a design from Chris. He traveled to Los Angeles to get samples for us. We were very particular about having a rug that was plush enough for us and our dog to play on daily. To save cost, we handled assembling the rug on our own.
Overall, we did spend slightly more than our initial budget, but we are very happy with the quality of work, product selection and design in the end. Working with Chris was a pleasure, and he kept up with us as we changed scope and requirements throughout the project. We will absolutely hire Chris again to freshen up other rooms in our home.
I’ve posted some camera phone quality pictures here for now. More professional, staged photos will be posted soon.
He is amazing! With fresh and innovative ideas, Christopher is able to capture his clients vision and execute the design flawlessly.
He always has plenty of suggestions and options which allows his clients to stay an active part of the process. His understanding of the design process; from concept to execution is spot on. He is fun to work with and a professional from start to finish. I would highly recommend Christopher to anyone and look forward to working with him again and again!
What impressed me the most about Christopher and his firm was the attention to detail they demonstrated making sure the design was being implemented to their vision and the standards of the highest quality. We have had the opportunity to work with Balboa Design Group on multiple high end exterior build-outs and they have assisted our clients with choosing outdoor furniture and accenting their outdoor living-space.
We highly recommend Balboa Design Group and look forward to collaborating on many more projects in the future.
