As many of you may already know, we are HUGE animal lovers at BDG! So, when presented with the opportunity to help our team’s very own local doggy doctors, we jumped at the chance! Harmony Animal Hospital, located at Park Blvd and Lincoln Ave in Hillcrest, has been in practice for over 25 years, and at their current location for 13 of those years. The building, while in a great location, was often overlooked by passersby due to its lackluster blue façade. Our client was interested in creating more curb appeal without breaking the bank. We presented a few creative (and fairly simple) solutions that would have a very big visual impact. The first was a new color scheme – painting the body of the building in a neutral creamy gray, the doors and casings in a bold forest green, with the trim and railings in an anodized bronze. This new color palette was classic and fresh all at the same time. We created a more layered look that was in line with the architecture of the surrounding neighborhood. The next step was to add an interesting stone texture to the lower portion of the walls. Introducing this natural stone element immediately brought texture and depth to the building. New signage, resurfacing of the front steps, updated light fixtures… and voila! Its now the best building on the block – our clients and neighbors alike are wagging their tails over the transformation.
We believe the design process should be a collaboration between designer and client. We start by actively listening to our clients’ needs, welcoming and encouraging their creative input. After all, nobody knows the advantages and limitations of a space better than those who use it every day.
